Ely Tigers signed off their last home fixture of 2024 with the visit of Bury IIs, a side they’d already beaten earlier in the season, with 6 minutes on the clock Tigers made the breakthrough as Matt McCarthy broke free to score under the post, with the conversion added also by McCarhty to lead 7-0, both side showed why they’d struggled this season as neither side get take a grip of the game, on 32 minutes Ely were awarded a penalty, opting to kick for the points, McCarthy stepped up to put the ball over to extend the lead to 10-0, as half time closed in Ely were dealt a blow as, first Ryan Edgeworth received a yellow card, this was quickly followed by Adam Tallack receiving a yellow card which saw the Tigers down to 13 mens, during this time Tigers were pinned back, but defended strongly, Tigers broke free from there own half to add to the scoreboard, as Rhys Williams Goldman finishing off the break to score in the corner, with McCarthy addin the conversion as Tigers lead 17-0 at the break.
The second half started still with Tigers down to 13 as the penalty clock counted down, during this time Tigers added to the scoreboard with McCarthy adding another penalty to lead 20-0, Ely score again, as Mitchell Kennett breaks with the ball breaking out to the wing to find Luke Turner to score, McCarthy adding the conversion, the bonus point try came as Adam Tallack crosses the try line to score, McCarthy was unable to add the conversion as the ball cannons off the right up as the final score finishes 32-0 to Ely,
The clubs seconds also had a run out on Saturday afternoon as they played March IIs, with the game finishing with a Tigers win as the full time score finishing 48-31, with points coming from Jerome Scott Paul (2), Alfie Allen (2), Jordan Barnes (2) and Harvey Williams all crossing the try line, while Tom Gunbie added 5 conversions and 1 penalty.
This coming Saturday Tigers travel along the A142 for a derby game against 3rd placed Newmarket to round off 2024.
